Before taking any medication, an athlete must check the status of the medication on the WADA Prohibited List or with their Anti-Doping Organization (ADO). If the substance is prohibited, the athlete will need to apply for a TUE.
When you have determined that a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) is needed, it is important that you and your physician provide the correct medical documentation. To assist you and your doctor, please consult the WADA Checklists for TUE applications for guidance and support during the TUE application process, and TUE Physician Guidelines for guidance on specific common medical conditions, treatments, substances, etc.
The WADA TUE Physician Guidelines provide Therapeutic Use Exemption Committees (TUECs) with medical information to support the decision-making process for TUE applications. The Guidelines are not mandatory documents are used in accordance with the principles set out in the International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemption (ISTUE) regarding the granting criteria for TUEs (Article 4.1 to 4.3).
Below is a listing of the WADA TUE Checklists and Physician Guidelines:
Work with your physician to fill out the TUE application and collect all supporting documents listed on the Checklist for your condition. Also ensure that your physician correctly completes all medical information and diagnosis, medication details, and physician declaration sections in the TUE application.
Please note that any TUE application submitted to the NADC that is not complete and without medical documentation will be returned to the athlete and will not be processed.
Review your application to ensure all components are complete and all necessary medical documents attached.
Ensure that you keep a copy of your entire TUE application submission for your record/reference.
Submit your completed TUE application to the NADC via +234 903 385 8210 or nadcngr@yahoo.com
